Hidden links in the page could be harmful to SEO. Hidden links could appear in the form of links in <Script> tags, links camouflaged in the page with background color and links appearing in encoded PHP tags. Avoid using links that are meant to deceive search engines.

Too many links on a page ruins SEO. Search engines perceive such pages as “directory” pages & devalue them in search results. Keep links, outbound or to other pages in the same site, under control. A good practice is to have not more than 3 – 5 links in page’s content.

Excessive use of pictures of videos also ruin a pages SEO. Search engines primarily evaluate text and ALT tags of images or videos to understand a page’s importance. When using images, the image name & the ALT tags add value to your SEO.

Image names also damage your page’s SEO. Using image names that are not meaningful takes away from your page’s value in the eyes of search engines. It is a good practice to use hyphens (‘-’) in image names (as well as page URLs) instead of using underscore (‘_’) or combining the words alltogether.

As an example, ‘improvingseotips.html’ or ‘improving_seo_tips.html’ are poor URLs compared to ‘improving-seo-tips.html’.
